25 april is Anzac Day, de dag waarop de Australische en
Nieuw-Zeelandse deelname aan de Eerste Wereldoorlog traditioneel
wordt herdacht. Bijna 12% van de bevolking van deze twee
landen nam actief deel aan de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Velen
onder hen liggen begraven op de militaire begraafplaatsen
in de Westhoek of staan vermeld op één van
de Missing Memorials.
De plechtigheden startten reeds in de namiddag met de voorstelling
van de nieuwe
CD ROM "Aussies in the Salient". Nadien volgden
plechtigheden aan het Belgisch
monument en de Menenpoort.

April 25th is Anzac Day, which commemorates the presence
and the sacrifice made by Australia and New Zealand during
World War I. Almost 12% of the population of both countries
was involved in this war. Many of them were killed or wounded.
Their graves can be found on a lot of military cemetries
in Flanders Fields. Other are mentionned on the Missing
Memorials.
The ceremonies started already in the afternoon with
the presentation of the new CD "Aussies in the Salient".
Afterwards a ceremony was held at the Belgian
monument and the Menin

/ This couple lived in New Zealand for the biggest part
of their lives. They now live in Wales and were very happy
that they could attend Anzac Day at Ieper.
