Op vrijdag 11 november 2005 vond ook in Mesen de herdenking
plaats van het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog plaats.
Dit jaar is Mesen 30 jaar verzusterd met het Nieuw-Zeelandse
Featherston. Op 11, 12 en 13 november 2005 werd deze verjaardag
op een passende manier gevierd. Op vrijdagnamiddag 11 november
vond de officiële opening plaats van de gelegenheidstentoonstelling
in de polyvalente zaal te Mesen.
In 2005, the twinning between Mesen (Messines) and Featherston
(New-Zealand) is 30 years old. This was celebrated with
a exhibition which was opened on Armistice Day.
Veel belangstelling voor de tentoonstelling.
Oud-Mesenaar Herman Matsaert was in 1975 ambassadeur van
België in Nieuw-Zeeland. Hij hielp mee bij het totstandkomen
van de verzustering.

Ambassador Armstrong during his speech in which he repeated
the special bond between Messines and Featherston. The ambassador
read a letter from Mss. Staples, mayor of Featherston who
wished the people of Messines prosperity. "Events like
these add a human relation to the twinning. We want to promote
better relations for the future. It is important that our
young people are involved", said the ambassador.

Featherston was a camp where the New-Zealand soldiers were
trained before the were shipped to Europe for the war. Many
of them died in Flanders Fields.
