Naar aanleiding van Open Monumentendag 2005 kon men te
Wijtschate een bezoek brengen aan de Duitse Dietrich mijnschacht
die eerder op de week werd blootgelegd in het bos van Wijtschate.
westhoek.be / wo1.be was erbij en biedt u hieronder een
aantal foto's. De site was alleen bij deze gelegenheid open.
On the occasion of Open Monumentday, we could visit
the German Dietrich mine Schacht at Wijtschate wood. Please
find below some pictures of this visit. The site could only
be visited at this occasion and is not open to the public
on other times.

Military Cemetery
Freddy Declerck is erbij gekomen en geeft uitleg over de
plaats en de situatie tijdens 1914-1918.
This map from 1916 gives an idea of the place and is
still exactly the same as it was during the great war. In
the middle at the left, you can find Petit Bois and the
big wood is Wijtschaete Wood.

Bois mine craters are situated.
And here is the site, untill earlier this week covered
with trees and mud and cleaned by the team of Franky Bostyn.
Deze gemetste schacht is zeer uitzonderlijk en gaat wellicht
40 meter diep. Van daaruit dan ± 600 meter verder
richting Britse linies.
The structure in bricks is very rare and probably up
to 40 meters deep and from there about 600 meter up to the
allied lines.
