Gedenkplaat / Memorial plaque Bairnsfather - Ieper - 28/05/2007
Tijdens het weekend van 26-28 mei 2007 maakte een groep van
13 Bairnsfather-enthousiastelingen een tour op zoek naar lokaties
waar de cartoonist Bruce
Bairnsfather verbleef tijdens het eerste halfjaar van
de oorlog in de Ieperboog en waarover hij berichtte in zijn
boek 'Bullets & billets' (1916). Bairnsfather deed dienst
bij het 1st Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment van december
1914 tot april 1915 toen hij gewond raakte bij Mouse
Trap Farm. De gedenkplaat werd onthuld in de St.-Georges
Memorial Church te Ieper.
In the weekend of 26th-28th May 2007, a small group of
13 Bairnsfather enthusiasts made a tour retracing the cartoonist
Bruce
Bairnsfather first six months on the Ypres Salient, as
detailed in his 1916 book, “Bullets & Billets.”
The group visited various locations associated with Bairnsfather,
when he was serving with the 1st Battalion, Royal Warwickshire
Regiment, from Dec 1914 to April 1915. The plaque was unveiled
at St.-Georges
Memorial Church at Ypres.
