New Zealand 90th anniversary of the Battle of Messines
1917
Op donderdag 7 juni herdacht Nieuw-Zeeland de 90e verjaardag
van de slag om Mesen in 1917. Om 10.00 uur vond een plechtigheid
plaats op Messines
Ridge British Cemetery. Nadien werd opgestapt naar de
Sint-Niklaaskerk voor de onthulling van een herdenkingsplaat
ter ere van Lance Corporal Samuel Frickleton die voor zijn
acties en moed te Mesen een Victoria Cross kreeg.

aniversary of the Battle of Messines 1917. On Thursday, June
7th, a ceremony took place at Messines
Ridge British Cemetery. Immediately following the completion
of the ceremony at Messines Ridge British Cemetery, a plaque,
commemorating the winning of the Victoria Cross during the
Battle of Messines by Lance Corporal Samuel Frickleton of
the New Zealand Rifle Brigade was unveiled.

Messines is twinned with Featherston from New-Zealand. The
new monument is situated at the Featherstonsquare. On the
ground, one can see the country of New Zealand.
